Slide Rock State Park in Sedona’s Oak Creek Canyon has long been a favorite destination for local families and visitors. It is renowned for its breathtaking desert views, cool swimming holes, natural pools, red rock beaches, and a stunning slide that has been entirely shaped by nature.
The gently sloping slide, which has a decline of about seven percent, is propelled by the natural current and algae, keeping it slippery. It leads to a large pool where visitors can swim to their heart’s content. The slide extends approximately 80 feet in length and ranges from 2.5 to 4 feet in width.
When you’re ready to take a break, you can relax by the creek and observe the area’s natural wildlife. Picnic spots are available, or you can hike the numerous trails and even play volleyball on the park’s court.
The park is situated on the historic 43-acre Pendley Homestead, which is home to an orchard boasting over 300 apple trees. Every September, visitors can enjoy the fruits of the season at the homestead’s annual apple festival.
Park entrance fees vary from $10 to $30, depending on the season. Therefore, it is recommendable to check online or make a phone call ahead of your visit. Additionally, the water during winter can be quite cold—even in Arizona—so it is wise to test the waters before diving in. Keep in mind that lifeguards are not on duty, so safety should always come first.
