Calling all biking enthusiasts! The Tour Du Rwanda is one of Africa’s most renowned cycling events that continues to expand each year. Set against Rwanda’s famous rolling hills, it serves not only as a challenge for local and international cyclists but also nurtures the country’s cycling culture.
Commencing in 1988, the Tour Du Rwanda gained international recognition 20 years later when it began to incorporate global partners. Spanning over 8 days and encompassing 4 stunning provinces, it features 20 teams and 100 cyclists from around the world, making it a thrilling event for spectators and participants alike.
The Walk to Remember
Every year on April 7th, Rwanda observes ‘Cyunamo,’ a week-long memorial period honoring the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi. During this time, celebrations and loud gatherings are discouraged as a mark of respect.
One significant event is ‘The Walk to Remember,’ a community march from the Rwanda Parliament building to the Amahoro National Stadium. This initiative, which began in 2009, aims to educate youth about the significance of the genocide history while unifying thousands of citizens, diplomats, and visitors.
Despite its somber purpose, the atmosphere during the walk is uplifting as it commemorates 30 years of peace since the tragic events of the genocide.
Ubumuntu Arts Festival
The Ubumuntu Arts Festival celebrates humanity through a rich tapestry of performances, including dance, drama, and music from contributors worldwide. This festival highlights universal themes that unite all cultures.
Scheduled for its 10th anniversary in 2024, the festival will revolve around the theme ‘Integrity: Resilience in the Face of Adversity,’ as emphasized by its founder, Hope Azeda, reminding participants of the importance of steadfastness and resilience.

Kwita Izina
Every September, Rwanda celebrates its commitment to conservation with the Kwita Izina ceremony, which names newborn mountain gorillas. This tradition, founded on local customs of naming babies, has evolved into a globally recognized event that brings together conservationists and the community.
With nearly 400 mountain gorillas named since 2005, this ceremony underscores Rwanda’s success in wildlife preservation and engages the public in their efforts.
