Top States for Solo Female Travelers
While more and more women are traveling in groups, with families, or on their own, safety remains a top priority. Consequently, to help women discover destinations where they can explore without fear, TrustedHousesitters conducted the 2023 Solo Female Traveler Report, unveiling the top 10 states ideal for those looking to travel solo.
The report determined its rankings by evaluating several factors, including a state’s internet speed (via data from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission), existing popularity among female solo travelers, and female safety, which was sourced from the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program.
After analyzing all the data, Vermont emerged as the top state for solo female travelers. “The northeastern state offers women a perfect R&R getaway,” the report indicated. “With the lowest rate of violence against women and the highest rate of women who report feeling safe in the nation, it’s no surprise that this destination is already popular with solo female travelers.” Notably, on TrustedHousesitters, women traveling alone account for more than half of all overnight stays in Vermont.
Pennsylvania secured the second spot, celebrated for its scenic beauty, friendly locals, internet access, and high safety rating for women. Delaware followed in third place, recognized as the “second safest state in the nation with the fourth-best internet speeds.” Rhode Island and Maryland rounded out the top five best states for traveling solo.
