The Extraordinary Journey of Simone Biles

Many consider Simone Biles to be the greatest gymnast of all time, with an unparalleled record in Olympic history.

Historic Achievement at the Paris Olympics

Biles won her ninth medal in the individual all-around, completing her remarkable comeback story with gold at the Paris Olympics. Subsequently, she added a 10th and 11th medal by winning the gold in the vault and securing silver in the floor exercise.

A Setback and a Strong Comeback

Despite being the 2016 Olympic champion in the individual all-around, Biles did not defend her title in Tokyo five years later. She withdrew from the competition, citing mental health concerns, which also impacted her participation in the team event. Biles later elaborated that she experienced the “twisties,” a mental block in gymnastics where athletes lose track of their positioning while airborne. She consequently missed finals in the vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.

Breaking New Ground in Gymnastics

Throughout the past few years, Biles has amazed audiences by executing never-before-seen moves. Currently, there are five signature skills named after her. At last year’s world championships, she made history as the first woman to land the Yurchenko double pike vault in international competition.
