From Copenhagen to Malmö: Putting ‘Flygskam’ Into Practice on the Rails

‘Flygskam’ has become quite the buzzword in Sweden over the past few years, which translates to ‘flight shame’. This term highlights the growing consciousness around carbon footprints and has led to a resurgence in Sweden’s public transportation, particularly the rail system. As more people opt for sustainable travel, short-haul flights between Malmö, Gothenburg, and the capital, Stockholm, are increasingly being avoided in favor of efficient train journeys.

Traveling the ‘Swedish Triangle’

To fully experience this shift, I take on the journey through the so-called ‘Swedish Triangle’ via train. While the railway offers a convenient route to Malmö, you can also enjoy a scenic trip by changing at Hamburg. In my case, I arrive at the beautifully designed Copenhagen Airport and board a train bound for Malmö, which operates at regular intervals of about every 15 minutes.
