Why Southwest’s Boarding Group C is the Best: A Traveler’s Funny Take

Southwest Airlines’ Boarding Group C

Being in Southwest’s Boarding Group C may not be as bad as it sounds, according to an enthusiastic traveler.

Insights from a Reddit Post

In a detailed Reddit post, a user shared both the potential benefits and drawbacks of being in the C Boarding Group.

“Here are the things I love about being (near) last on the plane,” the Reddit user began, presenting various advantages of what might seem like an undesirable situation.

It is important to note that Southwest Airlines does not assign seats, opting instead for a boarding system organized by zones (A, B, C). Consequently, as passengers in zones A and B board the plane, options for Zone C may become quite limited regarding available seats and overhead bin space.

However, the poster highlighted how these limited choices can actually be an advantage.

“Fewer choices for an overly taxed brain to manage,” they remarked. “With only two middle seats to select from, I experience less stress and more action.”

Moreover, boarding last means less time spent on the plane, allowing the traveler to board as the final passenger.

“Leaving my seatmates to fate (since I have no ability to select my seat) increases my odds of sitting next to a millionaire seeking a buddy to mention in their will instead of kids,” they continued.

In subsequent comments, other travelers expressed their appreciation for the author’s positive outlook on being in Boarding Group C.

“I love your perspective and your attitude. You are the person I want to sit next to in the empty seat,” one user remarked.

Southwest Airlines Recommendations

To avoid being placed in Boarding Group C, Southwest Airlines recommends checking in precisely 24 hours before the scheduled departure time, as the boarding position is determined by the order of check-in. If a passenger misses this window, they can opt to purchase an upgraded boarding position. The Reddit traveler mentioned that a switch from one flight to another resulted in their placement in Group C.

To enhance the experience for Group C and all passengers, Southwest recently announced that 90% of their aircraft have been upgraded with new Wi-Fi, delivering faster internet connectivity.
