Summary
Stargazing Experience at Oculis Lodge
Combine dark nights and bright stars with 15-foot-wide skylights in igloo-like domes, and you’ve got the makings of an unforgettable stargazing experience. The brand-new Oculis Lodge, a stargazing resort set deep in the Cascade Mountains, is designed to help travelers experience the wonders of nature—from star-studded skies to the remoteness of the mountains—in complete luxury. The first domes on property will be ready to receive guests in spring 2023.
Luxurious Accommodations
Each dome will feature a private six-person Jacuzzi, four-person sauna, and a heated deck, perfect for practicing yoga or working out (gear will be provided). Additionally, a private fire pit, hammock, and telescope will enhance the stargazing experience. With 700-square-feet of space, including a bedroom, a four-person sleeping loft, a bathroom with tub, a washer and dryer, and a full kitchen, the modern, bright domes can accommodate up to six guests. The centerpiece of the dome—the round skylight—will offer guests uninterrupted views of the skies above.
Sustainability Efforts
The structures at Oculis Lodge are constructed using reclaimed and recycled materials, resulting in 50 percent less energy required for heating and cooling compared to similar-sized spaces. Smart home technology will be integrated into the property for enhanced guest experience.
“Domes are possibly the greenest way to build because of their efficient use of materials, structural integrity, and energy efficiency,” according to a press release from Oculis Lodge. “The interiors are designed with a commitment to sustainability, ensuring guests enjoy luxury without compromising on eco-friendly values.”
Location and Nearby Activities
Oculis Lodge is surrounded by seven acres of undeveloped land in the small town of Glacier, Washington. It’s conveniently located less than 30 minutes by car to Mt. Baker Ski Area, renowned for its glacier-covered peaks and abundant snowfall. In the summer, the ski area transforms into a hiking and biking paradise with hundreds of miles of trails leading to breathtaking waterfalls and rivers. The lodge is just two hours by car from Vancouver and 2.5 hours from Seattle.
Oculis Lodge is owned and operated by the founders of the Igloo Beach Lodge in Costa Rica, a unique 24-room hotel featuring igloo-like pods near Espadilla Beach. The Oculis Lodge project is currently funded through Indiegogo. Crowdfunders can secure a one-night stay for $359, two nights for $610, and three nights for $840. The reservation does not expire yet must be redeemed via the website. Indiegogo indicates that the first guests will experience their stay in April 2023.
