One of the most vibrant times to experience Sussex is during the bonfire season. From September to November, local societies celebrate this unique tradition with parades, lively festivals, and, of course, spectacular bonfires. Additionally, this period marks the harvest season for local vineyards, providing opportunities for volunteers to partake in grape picking while enjoying a hearty staff lunch as a token of gratitude.

The Star is a captivating inn with historical roots, featuring original structures from the 15th century and later additions from the 1930s and 1960s. Nestled in Alfriston, a quintessential downland village, the hotel boasts 30 uniquely designed rooms. While the Heritage Junior Suite offers charming views of the high street with its freestanding tub and leaded windows, the other rooms are adorned with exquisite antiques and botanical accents. These include vibrant floral textiles by Richard Smith, delightful still lifes discovered at auctions, and naturalist wallpaper from Lewis & Wood. Moreover, the dog-friendly accommodations come complete with hardwood floors and ceramic water bowls by Gabriella Shaw, offering amenities such as thick Rockfish wellies, cozy yellow wool blankets, and stylish straw hats available for guest use.
