Trakt Forest Hotel (with trakt meaning area or district in Swedish) features a five-suite property, characterized by its distinct architecture. Designed by renowned Swedish architect Gert Wingårdhl, the hotel’s structure features sharp, geometric shapes complemented by bold colors. This project took five years to realize and opened in July. The design draws inspiration from traditional Swedish hunting towers, typically elevated from the ground and constructed with local materials.
The five forest suites are described as “floating rooms,” built on pillars to minimize their environmental impact, allowing them to blend seamlessly with the towering trees surrounding them.
“It takes simplicity to appreciate the forest,” Wingårdhl observed, further noting that the elevated design inspires a sense of safety and privacy. Inside, the decor showcases Scandinavian simplicity with customized accents, including locally crafted furniture. Features such as wood-burning fireplaces, sleek sofas, oversized windows, and skylights further enhance the experience, inviting guests to connect deeply with the natural surroundings.
Dining Experience
Guests can dine at Trakt Kitchen, the onsite restaurant situated in a timber house. This eatery specializes in traditional home-cooked meals, with many ingredients sourced from the family farm and neighboring locales. The Sälleteg family emphasizes a dedicated approach to their culinary practices, ensuring that each dish is thoughtfully prepared.
Visitors can enjoy a delightful breakfast basket or lunch delivered directly to their suite, as well as savor a three-course dinner. On summer weekends, a hearty buffet is available for lunch, followed by delicious desserts, coffee, and tea. The dining experience is further elevated with a selection of Italian wines from a small Umbrian winery and homemade soft drinks made with fresh fruit sourced locally.
