Aston Martin Welcomes New CEO Tobias Moers
Tobias Moers’s career as chief executive officer (CEO) of Mercedes-AMG, the automobile manufacturer’s high-performance division, comes to a close. Moers will assume the role of CEO at Aston Martin Lagonda on August 1, 2020, taking over from Andy Palmer, who has served as the British brand’s CEO for more than half a decade.
In a written statement, Lawrence Stroll, executive chairman of Aston Martin Lagonda, praised Moers as “an exceptionally talented automotive professional and a proven business leader with a strong track record during his many years at Daimler.” Moers’s leadership contributed to Mercedes-AMG achieving record sales of over 132,000 vehicles last year, marking the highest ever recorded for the brand.
Economic Challenges Ahead
Moers’s arrival at Aston Martin comes during a challenging economic period for the company, as its shares have dipped more than 90 percent from the initial public offering (IPO) price established in late 2018. However, the firm possesses promising prospects, with upcoming models such as the DBX crossover SUV and the Valkyrie hypercar, which were initiated under Palmer’s leadership.
Transitioning Leadership
As Aston Martin awaits the official start of Moers in its Gaydon, Warwickshire headquarters come August, Keith Stanton, vice president and chief manufacturing operations officer, will serve as the interim chief operating officer. Meanwhile, Daimler has appointed Philipp Schiemer, the head of Mercedes-Benz Brazil, as the new CEO of Mercedes-AMG, with Jochen Hermann, currently leading Daimler’s e-drive development, stepping in as Mercedes-AMG’s chief technical officer.
