Tom Brady Announces His Retirement from the NFL
Tom Brady has announced his retirement from the NFL.
“I’m retiring for good,” Brady, 45, said in a video posted to Twitter on Wednesday. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first.”
Brady, regarded by many as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, had initially announced his retirement last year before opting to return for another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Outstanding Achievements
In 2021, Brady won his seventh Super Bowl title when the Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. No other player in league history has appeared in seven Super Bowls.
Brady spent his first 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, winning six Super Bowl titles, before winning another Super Bowl in his first season with Tampa Bay. Throughout his career, he garnered the Super Bowl MVP accolade five times and set NFL records for passing touchdowns and yards.
Brady played college football at the University of Michigan. He started for the Wolverines in his junior and senior seasons, going 20-5.

Despite his successful career at Michigan, Brady was not projected to be a star in the NFL. He was the 199th player taken in the NFL Draft. Many quarterbacks were taken before him.

Brady started his career backing up Drew Bledsoe. When Bledsoe was injured in September 2001, Brady seized the opportunity and led the Patriots to the Super Bowl.
Brady loses the ball after being hit by Oakland’s Charles Woodson during an NFL playoff game in January 2002. The Patriots recovered and won the game, but the controversial play led to substantial debate in the offseason.
Brady and the Patriots triumphed in the 2001 season, winning the Super Bowl in February 2002 against the heavily favored St. Louis Rams 20-17, making Brady the youngest quarterback to win.
