The World’s Best Restaurant of 2024: Disfrutar in Barcelona, Spain

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has just announced ‘The World’s Best Restaurant’ as part of a prestigious awards ceremony in Las Vegas on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. This year’s coveted title goes to Disfrutar in Barcelona, Spain.

Ceremony Highlights

The 2024 awards ceremony held at Wynn Las Vegas brought together world-famous chefs and respected restaurateurs from across the globe to unveil the best of the best in the culinary world.

This year, Disfrutar earned the title of the world’s best restaurant, reflecting its excellence and creativity.

Prestigious Awards and Recognition

It is important to note that a restaurant that has previously claimed the top spot cannot win again; instead, they join the exclusive ‘Best of the Best’ list. Renowned establishments like Noma, Osteria Francescana, and Mirazur are part of this elite group. Consequently, the 2023 winner, Central in Lima, now joins this prestigious category, leaving room for Disfrutar’s well-deserved recognition.

Disfrutar: A Culinary Gem in Barcelona

Disfrutar has long been celebrated by the panel, having placed second on the 2023 list and being a constant presence at the awards since 2018, when the restaurant received the Highest New Entry accolade. The chefs—Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casañas—first met at El Bulli (another Best of the Best restaurant) in the 1990s. They subsequently opened Disfrutar in the Eixample district of Barcelona, known for its creatively curated menu and stunning dining atmosphere.

The Selection Process of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants

How are these prestigious rankings determined? A panel of culinary experts is responsible for the selections, adhering to strict rules. Notably, panel members are prohibited from voting for any restaurant in which they have a financial stake and must have personally dined at any restaurant they vote for within the last 19 months.

Regional Recognitions

During the announcement, the highest-ranking restaurants from each continent were highlighted. La Colombe was recognized as the best restaurant in Africa, Atomix topped the list for North America, and Gaggan claimed the highest ranking in Asia. Meanwhile, Maido of Peru was recognized as the best restaurant in South America. Ultimately, the prestigious title for Europe, and indeed for the world, goes to Disfrutar in Barcelona for 2024.
