Top Rated Beaches to Explore in Goa

The gods smiled on Goa, blessing this sun-kissed strip of the Indian coast with warm winter weather, whispering palms, fine food, friendly people, and an array of sandy beaches, creating an unbroken strip of gold from Arambol to Polem. However, with so many beaches to choose from, where to begin?

Whether you seek unspoiled golden shores, morning yoga classes under the palms, or the last embers of the full-moon-flavored hippie vibe, there’s a stretch of sand suited for you. Here’s a guide to the finest beaches in Goa.

Best for Peace and Quiet: Querim

Escaping the crowds can be tricky in Goa; however, it’s achievable. Querim, also known as Keri Beach, lies at the far north, beyond the radar of those congregating in Baga, Calangute, and Candolim. It’s a tidy, curving bay close to your dream escape with the sound of shifting sand. While amenities are limited, the more developed but still calm stretches at Mandrem and Agonda are great alternatives.

Best for Party Animals: Anjuna or Vagator

The party scene continues to thrive in Anjuna and Vagator, featuring great music and barefoot dancing on the sand. Parties are now hosted in established venues like Hilltop nightclub. As noise regulations exist, big-name DJs often play their sets on Sundays in the early hours. While old-school full moon parties still occur, they are now more secretive to avoid regulatory intervention. If you plan to party, proceed with caution due to safety concerns.

Best for Water Sports: Mandrem or Morjim

Goa’s coastline offers various exhilarating water sports. From January to March, windsurfing is favored in Dona Paula Bay. Kite surfing can be learned at Kite Guru in Mandrem or Kitesurfing Goa at Morjim. Moreover, there’s a vibrant surfing community, with spots from October to April being ideal for beginners, such as those offered at Banana Surf School in Morjim and Aloha Surf India in Agonda. Scuba diving is also available, revealing fish, wrecks, and reefs around nearby islands.

Best for Families: Agonda

Agonda is an excellent spot for a family beach holiday in India. With perfect winter weather and a child-friendly environment, many parents appreciate its boogie-board-friendly surf. Beachside eateries provide great vantage points for watching children enjoy their time in the sand. Other family-friendly beaches include Aswem, Palolem, and Patnem, offering a balance of amenities and space.

Best for Culture Vultures: Candolim

Goa is not solely about the beach. The state features a rich cultural landscape, particularly in its capital, Panaji, which offers museums, art galleries, and historic churches influenced by centuries of migration. Exploring Old Goa reveals a collection of stone-walled churches and cathedrals beautifully set amidst palm trees. Staying in Candolim, Calangute, or Baga provides easy access to cultural sites and affordable accommodations.

Best for Foodies: Baga

Goa’s culinary scene goes beyond the famed vindaloo. The extensive dining options range from traditional Goan cuisine to international flavors, catering to a diverse palate. Alongside local restaurants, expat-friendly eateries in South Goa serve global cuisines. To experience the finest meals, opt for accommodations in Candolim, Baga, or Calangute, close to exquisite dining options, including Panaji’s boutique restaurants.
