This year’s World’s Best Awards survey closed on March 2, just before widespread stay-at-home orders were implemented as a result of COVID-19. The results reflect our readers’ experiences before the pandemic, but we hope that this year’s honorees will inspire your trips to come — whenever they may be.
The jungles, beaches, and volcanoes that make up Central America create a breathtaking landscape, characterized by stunning resorts that take full advantage of their surroundings. However, it is essential to highlight the outstanding service, luxurious amenities, and gourmet food that elevate our top 10 resorts in Central America above the rest. These resorts emphasize their picturesque locales, while providing guests with an authentic and luxurious experience.
Every year, for our World’s Best Awards survey, iBestTravel asks readers to share their opinions on travel experiences from around the globe, encompassing the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated based on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were categorized as city or resort depending on their specific attributes and amenities.
Costa Rica claimed six spots in this year’s rankings, attracting travelers with its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and vibrant cloud forests. In Pérez Zeledón, near the Pacific Ocean, Hacienda AltaGracia (No. 7) maximizes its 864 acres to create an immersive experience with 50 casitas and suites overlooking the verdant hills. Consequently, guests often spot toucans and capuchin monkeys nestled among the trees. One reader described it as “a true gem” and expressed their desire to return.
Belize is another destination that is gaining momentum among travelers, and it also boasts several winners this year, including two resorts owned by Francis Ford Coppola. The beachfront Turtle Inn (No. 9) in Placencia captures a “very cool, laid back vibe,” while maintaining an “excellent staff [that is] very attentive.” No. 8 Blancaneaux Lodge, located in the heart of Belize, provides guests access to stunning nature reserves and Mayan archaeological sites.
