Top Retirement-Friendly Holiday Destinations

Gone are the days when retirees were considered little more than the ‘settled down’ sort. For many eager explorers, retirement means more time to see the world – a chance to gallivant globally.

A recent poll found that 37 percent of retirees surveyed described themselves as adventurous, while 24 percent said they’ve become more adventurous with age. Moreover, the study indicated that 35 percent of individuals over 55 believe a cruise is the best way to explore multiple destinations; notably, a quarter claimed they never take the same trip twice. Therefore, it is clear that adventure travel is on the rise among retirees.

In response to this trend, a travel insurance company compiled a list of the best destinations worldwide for venturesome sixty-somethings. The deciding factors include the number of three-to-five-star hotels, average costs of these hotels, availability of off-peak tours, quality of healthcare, a variety of activities, and the number of walking routes.

Here are the top 10 destinations:

10. Singapore

The futuristic metropolis of Singapore ranks highly across many categories, especially regarding the number of options for off-peak group tours. Unsurprisingly, there are hundreds of exquisite hotels, a whopping 825 activities to engage in, and a high-ranking health system, which makes Singapore a prime choice for adventurous retirees.

9. Munich, Germany

While Munich cannot quite compete with the German capital regarding activities or the number of three-to-five-star hotels, it offers a fantastic selection of engagements. Don’t forget the iconic Oktoberfest celebrations that take over the city each autumn, providing a lively atmosphere for those looking to immerse themselves in culture.

8. Oslo, Norway

Norway is well-known for its world-class healthcare and, similarly to Finland, boasts happy residents. Its hotel scene is as sleek as it gets, with no shortage of bucket-list sights within easy reach, including stunning fjords and, a bit further north, the majestic Northern Lights. Consequently, Oslo represents a blend of vibrant experiences and ample opportunities for relaxation.
