Top Hotels in Scandinavia: Discover Reader Favorites
How Voting Works
Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, iBestTravel engages readers to share their travel experiences from around the globe, providing insights on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and beyond. This year’s survey saw nearly 165,000 participants, marking a 25 percent increase compared to pre-pandemic levels. More than 685,000 votes were cast across over 8,500 unique properties.
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, or safari lodges depending on their location and amenities. They were specifically evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Rooms/facilities
- Location
- Service
- Food
- Value
Respondents rated each characteristic as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor, and final scores represent the averages of these ratings.
What Readers Loved
Scandinavia’s finest hotels have a rich history, often serving as significant cultural and artistic hubs. For instance, the splendid Hotel Kämp (No. 3) in Helsinki, established 130 years ago, was a favored meeting place for the country’s Golden Age artists and writers. Today, patrons appreciate the hotel’s “great location” and “wonderful service.” In Stockholm, the Grand Hôtel (No. 4) has welcomed guests since 1874 and was the site of the first Nobel Prize banquet in 1901. Renowned Swedish chef Mathias Dhalgren operates two restaurants in the hotel, including one recognized by Michelin’s Bib Gourmand designation. Meanwhile, the elegant d’Angleterre (No. 2) gained fame as the backdrop for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1966 film Torn Curtain, making it a prime location for exploring Copenhagen’s vibrant dining scenes and neighborhoods like Nyhavn.
