Top UK Hotels with Self-Catering Options Opening May 17

Unique Self-Catering Accommodations in the UK

When is a hotel not a hotel? The answer is when it can transform itself, at least partially, into self-catering accommodation instead. This is how a handful of top hotels that we like around England and Wales have, at very short notice, reopened and still stayed within UK government rulings.

Treehouses, cottages, and apartments attached to or in the grounds of these hotels have reopened their doors to households or support bubbles of England and Wales residents only. Many outdoor activities are now available, allowing for enjoyable experiences. Al-fresco dining in the grounds and hamper meals delivered to your door are just some of the tweaks enabling these self-catered hotel stays. Here are our favorite hotels you can stay in now.

Ellenborough Park - Outdoor Swimming Pool

Ellenborough Park, Cheltenham

This 15th-century manor house within 90 acres of cascading Cotswolds countryside has opened a handful of secluded rooms. Room service delivers bowls of hot porridge topped with maple syrup, cream, or whisky to be enjoyed on the enormous four-poster bed or quiet patio. The pool and spa are open, along with the restaurant’s al-fresco and indoor areas. Guests can arrange drinks at the Taittinger Horsebox or dine on the terrace, savoring flame-grilled steaks, flaky beer-battered fish, honey-roast ham, burrata, and truffle Croque Madame. From May, the cozy pop-up Cedar Pavilion, set in a South African tent, will also serve lunch. By Sarah James
