Summary
Holland America Line celebrates its 150th anniversary next year, and the cruise line will commemorate this milestone birthday with a pair of transatlantic sailings that will highlight the company’s rich history through activities, entertainment, and onboard cuisine.
150th Anniversary Celebration
The cruise line will celebrate its 150th anniversary on April 18, 2023. Holland America Line, which first started as a shipping and passenger line known as the Netherlands-American Steamship Company, is planning these two exceptional celebratory trips for October and April.
Gus Antorcha, Holland America Line’s president, emphasized the importance of this milestone. “A milestone like a 150th Anniversary doesn’t come around often for most companies, and our celebrations will bring to life our century-and-a-half of amazing history,” stated Antorcha. “Holland America Line has impacted the lives of millions throughout the years, whether by transporting them to a new life in America or providing a once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience. We have some really special experiences planned over the next several months to honor our heritage.”
First Transatlantic Sailing
The first transatlantic sailing is scheduled to depart on October 15 on the company’s Rotterdam VII ship, which made its maiden voyage on the same date 150 years ago (well before Holland America was officially incorporated). This unique trip will recreate Holland America Line’s very first sailing by crossing the Atlantic Ocean over 15 nights from Rotterdam, Netherlands. The vessel will conclude its journey in Fort Lauderdale, making notable stops in Plymouth, England; Le Havre, France; and New York City along the route.
Second Transatlantic Sailing
On April 3, the Rotterdam will leave Florida and make another trip to New York City for an overnight stop. Following this, the ship will spend eight days crossing the Atlantic, eventually arriving back in the Netherlands on the cruise line’s anniversary, April 18.
Special Events on the Cruise
Holland America Line will celebrate this significant milestone on both transatlantic sailings with a range of special events. Notably, live entertainment is planned for when the Rotterdam docks in New York City on October 26, as well as during its arrival in the Netherlands on April 18. Guests will also enjoy anniversary-themed programming and souvenirs, available for purchase in the onboard shops, making the experience even more memorable.
