TWA Hotel at JFK Airport Opens Its Doors
After years of anticipation, the TWA Hotel at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport has officially opened.
A Piece of Aviation History
Trans World Airlines (TWA) was renowned for its stylish service during the “golden age” of air travel in the 1960s. In 1962, the airline enlisted the talents of Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen to design its terminal at JFK. The TWA Flight Center became a landmark, celebrated for its wing-shaped roof and luxurious red-carpeted hallways.
Transformation into a Modern Hotel
The iconic structure closed in 2001 when the airline ceased operations. There were concerns that the building would be demolished. However, the space has been reimagined into one of the world’s most chic airport hotels.
Unique Amenities for Guests
Visitors to the TWA Hotel can unwind at the rooftop infinity pool, sip themed cocktails at The Sunken Lounge—a venue that once hosted The Beatles—or enjoy drinks on a vintage 1958 Lockheed Constellation.
The hotel’s unique ambiance reflects TWA’s rich branding, with amenity kits, keys, and plush bathrobes showcasing the TWA logo and its signature red-and-white color palette.
Dining and Culinary Offerings
The hotel features a food hall that hosts popular local eatery favorites like Empanada Republic, The Halal Guys, and Fresh&Co. Travelers seeking upscale dining can indulge at the Paris Cafe, crafted by Michelin-starred Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
Accommodations and Rates
All 512 rooms at the TWA Hotel were fully booked for the opening night, with nightly rates starting at $249. Additionally, travelers can access short-term stays and gym facilities, available for as low as $139 for four hours.
