The Missouri History Museum stands out as one of the most popular free attractions in St. Louis. However, it isn’t solely the exhibits inside the museum that attract visitors. Every spring and fall, the museum hosts a free outdoor concert series showcasing local musicians. Twilight Tuesdays provide an enjoyable evening out in St. Louis, coupled with the opportunity to watch a stunning sunset from Forest Park.
When and Where
Twilight Tuesday concerts occur annually in spring, commencing at the end of April or the start of May, and again in fall, beginning in late August or September. The concerts take place on the north lawn of the Missouri History Museum, nestled in the scenic Forest Park. Each performance starts at 6 p.m. and lasts for approximately two hours, featuring a diverse array of music genres including jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, and country.
Schedule of Acts: Spring 2018
May 2018 offers distinct musical experiences every Tuesday:
- May 1: A Tribute to New Edition (Project X)
- May 8: Javier Mendoza
- May 15: Fat Pocket
- May 22: Queens Blvd.
- May 29: A Tribute to Beyonce (Taynka)
Food and Drinks
Guests are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, blankets, lawn chairs, and small tables. Alternatively, attendees can purchase snacks, dinners, and drinks from various food trucks at the event. Additionally, dogs on leashes are welcome. While alcoholic beverages are permitted, glass containers are prohibited. Seating on the front lawn operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and restrooms are accessible on all three floors of the museum.
For the Kids
Children can delight in the music and enjoy the open grounds; however, special activities cater specifically to them. The Family Zone in the Grand Hall is available from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Museum staff engage kids with face painting, a strolling magician, and a craft project to take home. Families are also invited to arrive early and explore the History Clubhouse exhibit before the concert begins. This interactive section of the museum is designed for children and includes hands-on exhibits highlighting significant events in St. Louis history.
Parking and Transportation
Finding parking at popular events in Forest Park can be challenging. Limited parking is available on Lindell Boulevard; however, it’s essential to monitor for “no parking” signs. The lot near the Visitor’s Center in Forest Park is just a short walk away. There is also ample parking at the Upper and Lower Muny lots, though this requires a longer walk. Another convenient option is to take MetroLink to the Forest Park-DeBaliviere station, located directly across from the museum.
In Case of Rain
St. Louis weather can be unpredictable during spring and fall, so preparedness is key. If inclement weather arises, the Twilight Tuesday concerts will be rescheduled to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
