Your Guide to Travel Rules for Greece
What do the current rules for travel to Greece mean for your trip? Here’s our round-up of essential information you need to know about visiting.
Can I travel to Greece from the UK?
Yes, Greece is no longer on any UK red list, allowing you to travel freely from the UK. As of March 18, 2022, there are no Covid travel restrictions in the UK, irrespective of your vaccination status. Consequently, testing, quarantining, and even passenger locator forms are no longer necessary upon returning from Greece.
What are the entry requirements for Greece?
As of May 1, visitors to Greece are not required to show proof of Covid vaccination, a negative Covid test, or a certificate of recovery from the virus, regardless of their vaccination status or age. Additionally, no travellers need to complete a passenger locator form. Moreover, it was announced on May 16 that masks are no longer a requirement for passengers on flights to many EU countries; however, it’s advisable to verify the policy with your specific airline.
Upon arrival, some travellers may be required to undergo testing, and if a positive result occurs, they will need to quarantine in a hotel for a minimum of five days. Following this period, they must wear a specific type of face mask (FFP2, N95, or a combination of surgical and another mask) in all public spaces for an additional five days. If a fever persists, isolation must continue. The costs incurred during quarantine will be covered by the Greek state. In case other passengers from your flight, bus, train, or ferry test positive later, you may be obligated to undergo mandatory self-isolation.
Since May 1, domestic Covid passports, which show proof of vaccination or recovery, are also no longer needed to access any indoor or outdoor venues. From June 1, wearing face masks will not be mandatory unless in specific locations, such as hospitals and medical facilities, until at least September, when regulations will be reassessed based on the Covid situation in Greece.
It is always wise to check for updates directly from Greek authorities, as circumstances can change quickly and without notice.
