Ultimate 3-Day Paris Itinerary: Maximize Your Visit

Discovering Paris: A Local’s Itinerary

Beauty, intellect, history, art, food, and character – the French capital really does have it all – and if you don’t agree, it’s likely you’ve not been exploring in the right places. Avoid the tourist traps around the Champs-Élysées and the Eiffel Tower, and discover the unique villages the city encloses, each with its distinct character.

Day One

Morning

Start your Paris exploration on the picturesque Left Bank. If you desire to make this once bohemian (though now rather upscale) neighborhood your base, we recommend staying at a hip three-star hotel with its own coffee shop. After fueling up on top-notch coffee, head out on foot to explore Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Begin with a morning stroll around Jardin du Luxembourg, the most quintessentially Parisian park.

Next, it’s time to pay homage to the literary heritage of this area. At the north of the park, you’ll find a charming English-language bookstore complete with dreamy floor-to-ceiling shelves. Amble north past the Odéon Theatre onto Rue de l’Odéon, and be sure to note the plaque that marks the site of the original Shakespeare & Company. Wrap up your literary browsing with a visit to a treasure trove of second-hand volumes.

After all that intellectual exploration, it’s time to refuel. Head to a popular Franco-American café located on the north side of the park; opt for one of their delicious savory tarts.

Afternoon

Cross the river and soak in the more vibrant, bustling atmosphere of the Right Bank. Travelling by foot provides the perfect opportunity to meander north through Saint-Germain, although bus routes also make the crossing. Take the gallery-lined Rue de Seine to emerge at the river, before crossing the elegant Pont des Arts and enjoying the fabulous views.
