Ulun Danu Lake Bratan Temple

The Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple is one of the most iconic views in Bali, appearing in everything from airline brochures to travel magazines. This temple’s unusual pagoda has even been featured on the 50,000 Rupiah cash note in Indonesia.

It sits in the mountains at a higher elevation compared to the rest of Bali, where the temperatures are cooler—approximately 5 °C lower than at sea level. However, it has been impacted by overtourism, making it crowded at times.

Nevertheless, it remains a worthwhile visit if you have the opportunity! For those seeking a less touristy experience, consider checking out the Pura Segara temple on Lake Batur instead. It offers similar views but attracts fewer visitors.

As illustrated in the images below, the temple showcases its true magnificence when the mountains are visible in the background; however, the fog effect also creates a unique atmosphere.

One important note: drones are prohibited anywhere at Danu Beratan since it’s a Hindu temple.
