Introduction
Becoming an aunt is one of the most rewarding moments of your life. When my only sister announced she was pregnant with her first child, I felt a mix of emotions. While I was thrilled about the new addition to our family, I also realized that life would inevitably change. Fortunately, planning a babymoon getaway with my sister created an invaluable opportunity for us to connect, resulting in one of the most meaningful trips we’ve taken together.
Bonding Time
My sister and I are three years apart. During our teenage years, we had a decent bond, yet it wasn’t particularly close. After moving to different cities for college, our relationship became more distant. For years, we only saw each other during our family’s annual Christmas gatherings and occasional trips.
Just before turning 30, I relocated to Hood River, Oregon, which was only an hour from where my sister lived. This was the first time since high school that we were so close, and our visits became frequent. We started taking trips with family, including an unforgettable cabin retreat for my 30th birthday.
The Stay
With the approaching arrival of her baby, my sister texted me, asking if we could escape just the two of us. Excitedly, I agreed, and we began planning our babymoon. We decided on a short trip, conveniently meeting in Hood River before heading over the Hood River Bridge to Bingen, Washington. We chose The Society Hotel, where we were welcomed with warm sunshine, enhancing our stay.
The Society Hotel boasts a unique blend of historical charm and modern amenities, located in a small town with fewer than 1,000 residents. The Bingen location was formerly the Bingen School, and its renovation preserves historical features while offering contemporary comforts, making it feel like a mini resort.
Upon check-in, we settled into our cozy double-queen cabin, which featured sleek design elements, a full bath, a kitchenette, and a lovely patio. Dropping our bags, we immediately relaxed in the hammocks while surrounded by vibrant wildflowers.
Memorable Moments
Before dinner, we rejuvenated at the bathhouse, indulging in the sauna and saltwater soaking pools. It was a therapeutic experience that allowed us to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. In the spirit of creativity, we decided to prepare dinner in our cabin, conjuring up a fun mix of ingredients we affectionately call “fun bowls.” Cooking together brought back fond memories and laughter.
Post-dinner, we savored oat milk hot chocolates by the fireplace, then enjoyed the night under stars beside a large outdoor fire pit, embracing the tranquility of the night.
The following morning, we relished a simple breakfast and returned to the bathhouse to enjoy the morning sun and beautiful architecture. As our checkout time approached, we cherished the last moments in the hammocks, surrounded by nature’s beauty.
Conclusion
Ultimately, this babymoon experience with my sister was significant in cementing our bond. Although it was a brief escape, every moment was meaningful. The time spent together reaffirmed our strong ties as sisters and allowed us to engage in heartfelt discussions before welcoming new changes into our lives. I look forward to creating new memories with my nephew in the future, making his very own experiences just as memorable.
