Discover Madrid’s Unique New Hotel Launching This Month

Exploring The Madrid Edition Hotel

When it comes to hotel and city matchmaking, there’s perhaps no better pairing than Marriott’s Edition Hotels and the vibrant city of Madrid. This outstanding property opened its doors on April 21, showcasing exceptional design and style.

“It’s just a beautiful city that marches to its own beat and goes its own way,” stated Ian Schrager, the visionary behind The Edition. This sentiment perfectly captures both Madrid and the hotel brand, recognized for its dramatic design concepts and vibrant nightlife.

Striking Design and Ambiance

The Madrid Edition is nestled in the Plaza de la Descalzas neighborhood, just steps from Plaza Mayor. Guests are welcomed into a contemporary space featuring an 18th-century baroque portal salvaged from a nearby building. The lobby, emulating the gathering places of local plazas, is the beating heart of the hotel, offering access to the Lobby Bar, the Punch Room, and Jerónimo, led by celebrated chef Enrique Olvera.

A grand spiral staircase, a showstopper just off the lobby, contrasts its dark wood surroundings with a striking white form. This design sets the tone for the hotel’s 200 rooms, decorated in soothing off-white tones complemented by sleek furnishings and illuminated headboards echoing the baroque entrance.

Dining, Leisure, and Amenities

The fusion of old and new design elements is a collaboration between acclaimed British architect John Pawson, known for minimalism, and Paris-based designer François Champsaur, who brings a more playful approach. Their combined vision results in a harmonious blend throughout the hotel, showcasing architectural features like arched hallways with parquet floors alongside vibrant colors reminiscent of Luis Barragán.

“With The Madrid Edition, I wanted to create spaces with varying intensities—both calm areas for retreat and environments pulsating with life and identity,” Pawson explained.

The hotel features the rooftop restaurant Oroya, under the direction of Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz, and an opulent basement nightclub set to launch later this year. There is also an outdoor pool, fitness center, and spa, providing a comprehensive leisure experience.
