Here are five of our favorite independent shops in Barcelona, each telling a snippet of the city’s ever-evolving story.

Best for Vintage: Holala! Plaza

Barcelona boasts a thriving world of vintage design, particularly in El Raval. Holala! Plaza is renowned for its collection of garments sourced from flea markets, textile factories, and shops worldwide. Best for Local Design: La Manual Alpargatera

Located in the historic Barri Gòtic, La Manual Alpargatera specializes in handcrafted espardenyes (espadrilles), a traditional Catalonian footwear. This artisanal shoemaker has been in business since 1940, significantly influencing fashion with its innovative, handmade designs. Celebrity followers include Penélope Cruz and Ralph Lauren.

Each pair of shoes is uniquely crafted using traditional methods that date back centuries. Opt for a classic Pinxo style or trendy lace-up wedges.
