Overview of the New Lounge
United Airlines has unveiled a nearly 30,000-square-foot lounge, which is its largest in the United States. This new facility features stunning views, spa-like shower suites, and a barista-served coffee bar.
Located in Terminal C3 at Newark Liberty International Airport, the lounge offers more than 480 seats and is adorned with locally-sourced art and furniture, all providing enviable views of the Manhattan skyline, according to the airline. The club opened just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, a peak travel time when over 2.6 million customers are expected to travel with the carrier, reflecting a 50% increase from 2021, as noted by United Airlines.
Customer Experience and Amenities
For those wishing to refresh before a flight, the lounge features six shower suites stocked with Sunday Riley products. Customers can enjoy the barista-staffed coffee bar, which serves hand-crafted beverages made with Illy coffee.
This lounge incorporates sustainable features, such as WaterSense-rated fixtures that meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s specifications for water efficiency. Moreover, it includes modern amenities like self-scan entry to streamline the customer experience.
Design Inspiration and Local Art
The lounge boasts two stunning murals created by local artists Gilbert Hsiao and Dahlia Elsayed. These pieces were made in collaboration with The Newark Museum of Art and Gallery Aferro.
Linda Harrison, the director and CEO of The Newark Museum of Art, expressed, “May these tremendous artworks inspire and remind our residents and visitors of Newark’s role as a cultural hub for artistic excellence and community cultivation.” She emphasized their pride in contributing to this exciting unveiling.
Trends in Airport Lounges
United Airlines is not the only carrier enhancing its lounge offerings. Delta Air Lines has also opened a 30,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor Sky Club at Los Angeles International Airport. Furthermore, American Airlines is set to debut an exclusive lounge in the revamped Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport, featuring a Champagne bar, a fireside lounge, and an a la carte dining room that reimagines American’s Flagship First Dining.
