Summer Movies We’re Looking Forward To Published 6:54 AM EDT, Thu March 24, 2016 If good superheroes can get together -- as in "Batman v Superman" and the "Avengers" films -- then what about bad guys? "Suicide Squad" puts together the Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Deadshot (Will Smith), among others, to take on missions others won't dare. Opens August 5. "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens Friday, March 25, but it feels like a summer movie: superheroes, special effects and almost certain success. Ben Affleck plays Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Superman; Zack Snyder, who made "Man of Steel," directs. Melissa McCarthy teamed with her husband, Ben Falcone, on "The Boss." She plays the richest woman in America -- and a real handful. Kristen Bell co-stars. The comedy opens April 8. The 1967 animated version of "The Jungle Book," which featured Louis Prima singing "I Wan'na Be Like You," was the last film personally overseen by Walt Disney. The new version of Rudyard Kipling's classic tale combines live action and CGI and includes the voices of Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. It opens April 15. "Captain America: Civil War" lit up the Internet with its trailer and is expected to fill theaters when the entire 147-minute opus slams into theaters. Chris Evans is Cap and Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man, and when the two meet, it's a lot of broken asphalt. The film opens May 6. Now that the world has seen "The Big Short," which used comedy to illustrate the financial crisis, it will be interesting to see how moviegoers take to "Money Monster." George Clooney stars as an investment show host who's held hostage by a man (Jack O'Connell) who lost his savings. Julia Roberts plays Clooney's producer. Jodie Foster directs. The film opens May 13. "Neighbors," which pitted Zac Efron's fraternity against Seth Rogen's family, was a big hit two years ago, so of course there's a sequel: "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising." Efron, Rogen and Rose Byrne are back, and this time they're joined by Chloe Grace Moretz. The film opens May 20. Brooding Russell Crowe. Intense Ryan Gosling. In a comedy? Yep, they're playing "The Nice Guys," in which a private detective and his roughneck colleague try to solve a case in 1977 Los Angeles. Given that it's directed and co-written by Shane Black, it'll be pretty dark, too. It opens May 20. Another summer, another "X-Men" movie. This one, "X-Men: Apocalypse" features Oscar Isaac as the titular Apocalypse, a mutant from the dawn of civilization. The X-Men gang, including James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence, has to stop him from doing the nefarious things he does. Opens May 27. Alice (Mia Wasikowska) is back in "Alice Through the Looking Glass," the sequel to 2010's "Alice in Wonderland." Also back: Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Tim Burton as the director and Lewis Carroll as the British author on whose works the films are based. It opens May 27. The 2014 return of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a surprise blockbuster, so there was no question they'd return. The new film, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows," opens June 3. "Now You See Me," about a gang of magicians who pull off a heist, was a surprise hit in 2013. In "Now You See Me 2," the gang now has to deal with Daniel Radcliffe as a villainous tech mogul. Don't they know he can cast a spell? Opens June 10. "Finding Nemo" is one of the most beloved Pixar films. One of that film's most beloved characters, Dory the absent-minded tang fish, now gets her own film. Ellen DeGeneres provides the voice of Dory. She's joined by Idris Elba, Diane Keaton and Michael Sheen. Opens June 17. Aliens don't like it when you infect their spaceships with computer viruses and save humanity. In "Independence Day: Resurgence," they've sent another force to attack Earth, and Jeff Goldblum, as scientist David Levinson, has to subdue them again. Also returning: Brent Spiner, even though his character was apparently killed off in 1996's "Independence Day." The film opens June 24. Matthew McConaughey stars in the historical drama "The Free State of Jones," about a Confederate veteran who tires of the Civil War and helps create his own community. The film opens June 24. By now, everyone knows the twist to the new "Ghostbusters": The foursome are female. Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones star as the specter fighters. It opens July 15. The latest film in the "Star Trek" series, "Star Trek Beyond," may have Zachary Quinto's Spock and Karl Urban's McCoy interacting with each other more than with Chris Pine's Capt. Kirk. That sounds like fun, as does the fact that Simon "Scotty" Pegg contributed to the script. The film opens July 22. It seemed like Matt Damon wasn't going to come back as Jason Bourne after 2007's "The Bourne Ultimatum." Jeremy Renner played the Bourne-like Aaron Cross in 2012's "The Bourne Legacy." But here's Damon, along with director Paul Greengrass, for "Jason Bourne," which continues the story of the shadowy agent. It opens July 29.
