Exploring Villa Copenhagen: A Modern Eco-Friendly Haven
Why Visit?
Big and beautiful, Copenhagen’s slickest new arrival is filled with contemporary art, much of it Scandinavian, and sits right next to Tivoli Gardens.
Setting the Scene
The vast, light-filled atrium meets lobby bar is already a popular meeting spot for locals, featuring regular DJs, live music, and pop-up events.
The Backstory
The neo-baroque former headquarters of the Danish post office was built in 1912. Owner Petter Stordalen made sure to preserve many of its original features during the extensive renovation. “It’s important to me that the hotel is bustling,” he says. “It’s better that locals come to sit and have a beer than we have five stars.”
The Rooms
Away from the lively bars and lobby, rooms here are understated and calm with herringbone floors and high ceilings. Inner rooms overlook the courtyard atrium, while others look out across the train tracks (don’t worry, rooms are well soundproofed). From some rooms, you can glimpse Tivoli’s Wednesday and Saturday-night firework displays.
Food and Drink
A sustainable ethos runs through the menus, featuring carbon-free dining and zero food waste at the all-day brasserie Kontrast. At the in-house Rug Bakery, former Noma chef Gonzalo Guarda bakes burnished pastries that elevate the breakfast experience. Local craft brewery Mikkeller provides the beer for later in the day.
The Spa
Unusually for the Danish capital, Villa Copenhagen boasts a rooftop pool, outdoor and heated, with a bar. It’s already a popular hangout when the sun peeks from behind the clouds.
The Neighbourhood
Just across the train tracks, Vesterbro is known for its independent shops and restaurants, especially in Kødbyen, the Meatpacking district. The National Museum, Glyptoteket Art Museum, Tivoli, and the main shopping district, Strøget, are all within walking distance.
The Service
Experience low-key and informal service with free-roaming check-in staff.
Eco Efforts
This being Denmark, sustainability is deeply woven into everything that Villa Copenhagen does – including the rooftop pool, which is heated by waste energy. The Earth Suite features 100 percent recycled materials.
Accessibility for Those with Mobility Impairments
The hotel offers 10 adapted rooms with more space, walk-in showers, and support handles.
