Why Choose Villa Lario?

Experience stunning views of Lake Como at Villa Lario.

The Backstory

More than a century ago, the Lombardi family acquired land on Lake Como’s east bank, previously just a cave for their extensive collection. After 15 years of planning, they began constructing a hotel under the direction of local architect Pietro Castagna. His vision was to create a warm and inviting home, blending modern comforts with a touch of elegance. Unlike many buildings around the lake that flaunt ornate facades, Castagna opted for simple yet sophisticated designs. This choice highlights the natural beauty surrounding the villa, ensuring guests are not distracted from the breathtaking views of the outdoors.

The Rooms

Villa Lario features four distinctive styles of accommodation, catering to both romantic getaways and family retreats. With a total of 18 suites designed for just 36 guests, the atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. Visitors delight in neutral hues paired with hand-painted frescoes, while natural light streams through expansive balcony doors. Unique to Villa Lario, there are no TVs in the rooms, encouraging guests to immerse themselves in the stunning scenery just outside.

Food and Drink

Age 28, local chef Alex Visconti has meticulously crafted a menu focused on five essential Italian ingredients, evolving with the seasons and sourced from local artisans. This culinary approach aims to educate guests on the versatility of these ingredients. Notably, puntarelle, a chicory variant with a bitter, refreshing flavor, stands out on the menu. Moreover, the chef encourages guests to explore their culinary preferences, assuring that the kitchen can whip up virtually any desired dish within hours.

The Service

To minimize the hotel’s environmental impact, only local staff are employed—including builders, gardeners, chefs, and hospitality personnel. This strategy not only supports the local economy but also enriches guests’ experiences, as staff are well-versed in the region and can provide valuable local insights.

Eco Efforts

The average temperature of the lake is 0°C in winter and a pleasant 25°C in summer. Consequently, cold water is extracted from depths of 50 meters into an onsite facility where it is filtered into the air conditioning system, providing natural cooling for the rooms.

Accessibility

Though the villa is positioned on a hillside, it is wheelchair-accessible in several rooms, making it a friendlier option for guests with mobility impairments.
