Virgin Atlantic is Now Flying Airbus A330neo-900 Aircraft
There’s never been a better time to fly Virgin Atlantic. With the delivery of four A330neo-900 aircraft last fall, the airline is now operating its most advanced plane yet—daily from New York-JFK and Tampa, along with select flights from Boston, Miami, and Atlanta, to London’s Heathrow Airport.
Overview of Virgin Atlantic’s A330neo-900
“This is our best experience nose to tail,” said Corneel Koster, Virgin Atlantic’s chief customer and operating officer, at a showcase for the aircraft earlier this month. The improvements throughout the plane make flying more comfortable and convenient for passengers in every cabin, not just business class.
Upper Class Experience
Business class, referred to as Upper Class on Virgin Atlantic, offers the best seats in the house. The lie-flat seats feature fully closing doors for the first time, transforming them into luxurious suites. The cabin also includes a social space called the Loft, which allows Upper Class passengers to congregate during the flight, complete with a self-service fridge offering low- and no-alcohol beverages, plus an ice cream freezer.
Another standout feature in the cabin is the new Retreat Suites. Situated in the first row, these suites offer even more space than the standard Upper Class suites. Notably, they include a foot ottoman that can serve as a second seat, enhancing the dining experience for those traveling with companions.
Premium Economy and Economy Improvements
Across both Upper Class and Premium (the airline’s premium economy offering), travelers will find upgraded wireless charging stations, as well as USB ports and power outlets. Notably, the in-flight entertainment systems feature Bluetooth connectivity, allowing guests to enjoy movies using their wireless headphones.
Meanwhile, economy class has seen enhancements too. “With economy, we’ve actually uplifted screen size to 13.3-inch monitors, creating a significantly better experience compared to other economy offerings,” stated Henry Buckley, Virgin Atlantic’s senior manager of experience design.
Fuel Efficiency of the A330neo-900
Beyond its advanced cabin design, the A330neo-900 is also the most fuel-efficient aircraft in Virgin Atlantic’s fleet, utilizing 11 percent less fuel than the airline’s other planes. This translates to reduced emissions and an eco-friendlier travel experience. Additionally, the new synthetic leather interior is a contributing factor to its weight savings, resulting in improved fuel efficiency.
Currently, four Virgin Atlantic A330neo-900s operate in the skies, with an order for a total of 16 aircraft on the horizon.
