Marble Temple Wat Benchamabophit

What Is Wat Benchamabophit?

Wat Benchamabophit derives its nickname “Marble Temple” due to the exquisite Italian marble used in its construction. This beautiful Buddhist temple was commissioned by the king of Thailand in 1899, making it over 120 years old.

The temple is part of an extensive complex featuring several buildings next to a tranquil canal, most of which are available for exploration without any admission fees.

Dress Code

While the outer temple grounds do not enforce a strict dress code, entering the main temple mandates adherence to specific rules for both men and women. Visitors must wear attire that covers their knees and shoulders to gain entry; non-compliance will result in denial of access.

Shorts are permissible provided they extend to the knees. Additionally, inexpensive sarongs are available for purchase to help visitors meet the dress code requirements.

How To Get There

Wat Benchamabophit is conveniently situated in the Dusit district of central Bangkok. The easiest method of transportation is using the Grab app to hail a driver, as fares are quite affordable and drivers are readily available in the area.

Alternatively, consider booking a day tour encompassing multiple attractions in Bangkok. This can enhance your travel experience by guiding you to various notable sites, including the Marble Temple.

When To Visit

Bangkok is a year-round destination; however, the rainiest months typically fall between May and October, while the sunniest months are from November to March. Remarkably, it’s possible to enjoy a rain-free week even during the rainy season, as experienced during a visit in August.

The most suitable time to explore Bangkok temples is in the morning, as it tends to be cooler and less crowded.

Where We Stayed

During our visit, we stayed at ninaguesthouse in Bangkok, enjoying a comfortable double room for $27 USD, complete with cold air conditioning, hot shower, and reliable WiFi.

Though it may not have been the absolute least expensive option during our travels in Thailand, its advantageous location just a three-minute walk from the vibrant Khao San Road, bustling with excellent eateries and shops, made it a great choice.

Furthermore, the proximity to major temples facilitated easy access via walking or a quick Grab ride. Prices may fluctuate, so it is advisable to monitor for favorable deals.
