After a nearly eight-hour manhunt Wednesday, authorities captured the suspect accused of fatally shooting a woman and wounding four others in an Atlanta medical building.
The suspected gunman, 24-year-old Deion Patterson, entered Northside Medical Midtown just before noon, shooting the first victim shortly afterward, as stated by Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Charles Hampton. The suspect used a handgun during the attack, then fled on foot before hijacking a vehicle nearby.
Patterson faces one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault, as indicated by Fulton County jail records. He waived his right to a court appearance that had been scheduled for Thursday morning, according to the jail supervisor.
This mass shooting—the latest in an ongoing series of gun violence across America—sent shockwaves through Atlanta’s vibrant Midtown community. Authorities urged residents and visitors in the area to shelter in place while they searched for the gunman.
