Forces loyal to two rival generals are vying for control of Sudan, and the fierce fighting has left hundreds dead and thousands injured, according to the World Health Organization.
A 72-hour ceasefire went into effect at midnight local time on Tuesday, allowing foreign nationals a chance to evacuate amid the deteriorating conditions. They agreed on Thursday to extend that ceasefire another 72 hours.
Sudanese people have been left to fend for themselves or flee the country. Many have been traveling to the Egyptian border.
