The incident has proven to be a logistics nightmare for freight being shipped to Perth and WA. Moreover, Australia Post and the Indian Pacific passenger trains have also been impacted by the train derailment. Families can expect at least a seven-day delay on Christmas parcels that were being shipped across the desert by train. Similarly, businesses that need to restock shelves in the lead-up to Christmas are also affected. The Department of Education has indicated that school supply deliveries may experience delays due to the derailment. Although the track reopened at midday on Thursday, it remains unclear how long it will take for trains to commence arriving again in Perth.
