On Tuesday, Variety revealed that the upcoming season of the hit HBO show will take place in Thailand.
Potential Hotel Hosts
Although HBO has refrained from commenting on this news, multiple sources shared with the publication that the show’s creator, Mike White, has chosen Thailand as the Southeast Asian backdrop. Moreover, Variety speculated on which luxury hotel might host the crew, highlighting the four Four Seasons properties across the nation. These properties, located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and the Golden Triangle, are strong contenders for the next filming location. This follows the trend of previous seasons being shot at Four Seasons properties, including the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and The San Domenico Palace, A Four Seasons Hotel.
Thematic Focus of the Season
In addition, the publication indicated that White had previously hinted at exploring a Southeast Asian theme in interviews, leading fans to speculate that the season might revolve around “death, Eastern religion, and spirituality.” This aligns with his comments about the thematic progress of the series, where he described the first season as focusing on money, and the second on sex.
“I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus,” White expressed following the show’s second season finale.
Production Updates
As of now, production has not yet commenced, and details regarding the new cast remain undisclosed. Nevertheless, fans can hope that if themes of death and spirituality are included, the character Tanya might reappear in a ghostly form. After all, she deserves a striking comeback.
