Philadelphia’s Airport Introduces Wingmate Guest Pass
Philadelphia’s airport will go back in time to when non-travelers could meet loved ones at the gate with a new program starting next month. The new PHL Wingmate Guest Pass, which will launch on Nov. 1, will allow people without a boarding pass to access Philadelphia International Airport’s post-security terminals, according to the airport. The free program will be available each day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Access Details of the Wingmate Guest Pass
To access the program, individuals must apply online one to seven days before their desired visit. Upon approval, applicants will receive a digital Wingmate Pass via email. Specifically, those who apply in advance will receive an email detailing their application status after 12 a.m. on the chosen visit day. Conversely, same-day applicants will be notified within 15 minutes regarding their application status.
However, it’s important to note that approved applicants cannot utilize expedited security programs such as TSA PreCheck and are limited to bringing only one personal item, such as a purse or briefcase.
Comparison with Other Airports
Philadelphia isn’t alone in inviting non-travelers to access the secure area of an airport. Last month, Orlando International Airport launched a similar visitor pass, designed to enhance visitor experiences. This program is available at Orlando’s newest space, Terminal C.
Moreover, Pittsburgh International Airport became the first to introduce a program like this in 2017; however, that program has since been suspended. In 2019, Tampa International Airport also initiated an “All Access program” for non-travelers, but that program has also been suspended as the airport seeks to evaluate passenger volumes at their security checkpoints.
Other airports, such as those in Seattle and New Orleans, still provide post-security programs for non-ticketed passengers, thereby improving the overall travel experience for families and loved ones.
