Custom 2024 Ford Mustang Designed by Sydney Sweeney Won by Brittley
A contest to win a car isn’t a new idea. However, a chance to win a custom 2024 Ford Mustang GT that was designed by actor Sydney Sweeney herself? That’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—and one that Brittley from Washington State just scored.
At the beginning of this year, Ford announced a contest where one lucky winner could take home a brand-new Mustang GT Sweeney had a hand in customizing.
Features of the Custom Mustang GT
The car in question wears a striking shade of sparkly Robin’s Egg Blue paint, 20-inch chrome wheels, Ford x Sydney Sweeney heart bolt emblems, color-shifting LED “stars” across the headliner, Sweeney’s signature on its engine cover, and an interior upholstered in a beautiful tan that you cannot currently option with any new Mustang. It’s inspired by the actor’s own 1965 Mustang, christened “Britney.”
How to Enter the Contest
To enter, participants had to write a caption on Ford’s social media pages that explained how they “defy stereotypes to pursue their passions,” according to a company press release. Ford received more than 20,000 submissions, with 5,000 of them fitting within the contest criteria.
Brittley’s Journey to Winning
At this year’s New York International Auto Show, contest winner Brittley expressed, prior to entering, she hadn’t fully considered how all the interests she’s ever had have been in male-dominated fields. She was a sous chef, she works in game development, and she’s always loved to wrench, cutting her teeth on her 2005 Mustang with her dad. Consequently, replacing the whole engine was the first time she’d ever worked on a car. Therefore, the words came easily, despite her having never entered any kind of contest before.
The Excitement of Winning
Having won the Sydney Sweeney Mustang, Brittley was flown out to New York for her first time in the city and to see her new car on display. Her excitement was contagious. She mentioned that she and her family have cleaned up their whole garage for when the Mustang comes home. Moreover, once it’s there, she plans to daily drive it because cars are meant to be driven.
Future Adventures in the Mustang GT
The 2024 Mustang GT’s 486 hp is more than what Brittley is used to, but she knows that a Mustang is still a Mustang. She’s looking forward to enjoying the starry headliner on night drives, as well as dipping into the pampering world of dual-zone climate control.
Although Sweeney wasn’t there in person to present Brittley with her prize, they did get to converse via a video call. As Brittley recounted, she thought she was meeting with Ford executives, but it turned out to be Sweeney on the other end instead. Sweeney thanked Brittley for being herself, spreading her joy, and encouraging other women to break barriers.
Brittley’s Love Letter to Women
The blue Mustang will soon be shipped to Brittley’s home state of Washington. For those curious, her submission is a powerful message to women:
Can anyone explain why cooking is a woman’s hobby but a man’s profession? That horse riding is for girls, but training horses is for cowboys? When does that begin, I wonder, the barrier to women exceeding? When I was working on my Mustang, I visited an auto shop to pick up parts and the cashier laughed at my nail polish color. He tried to make me doubt myself, to feel like I didn’t belong in that building with him, fixing my own car. Years before, it was a rare day that my title as Sous Chef wasn’t met with an eyebrow raise and doubt in the industry. Women are constantly underestimated in male-dominated industries, and we battle to be seen and heard every day. Don’t forget to smile! He was just teasing you. Lighten up. Calm down. I have always been one of a small percentage of women in my specialties, and in doing so I must constantly challenge the expectations of others—and of myself—to push through when I’m in a place of self-doubt and push up when I meet a challenge. I can change my own spark plugs. I can throw a lasso off a horse. I work in video game development. I worked harder, learned more, fought, loved, and cared for myself and those around me, while constantly asking myself, ‘How can I empower others to challenge their expectations, too?’ I won’t conform to the standards put on women to make them more palatable. I will not be quiet; I will use my emotions as a strength, and I will prove that I—that WE—deserve a seat at the table. I am working hard and striving, striving, striving so that my daughters don’t have to battle, and that my sons can see a woman wearing her dirty, oily coveralls and think that maybe they could learn a thing or two from her. And I won’t do it alone—reading through the submissions for this prompt and seeing so many incredible women who have challenged and defied expectations in their own way, the sum of our strength is clear—women are working together to shatter the ceiling that holds us back from the things we love to do: Work on cars, become a chef, ride a bronco, smash the local track record, run a company, design a Mustang with Ford, LIVE. And we’re going to do it all with pink nail polish on.
