Packing Tips for Your Winter Parka
It’ll free up so much space in your suitcase.
Expert Advice from a Meteorologist
As far as winter packing hacks go, there’s no one you can trust more for advice than a meteorologist. Nathan Coleman from The Weather Network recently shared a quick tutorial on how to pack an extra parka for your cold-weather vacation like a pro.
Finding space in your closet can be challenging during the winter months with large coats occupying valuable real estate. If you’re packing for a ski trip, one parka can take up a significant portion of your suitcase.
Minimizing Luggage Bulk
Wearing a bulky jacket on a road trip can be hot and uncomfortable. Therefore, minimizing the impact of your parka on your luggage is crucial. Coleman suggests thinking of your parka as a sleeping bag or tent.
Folding and Rolling Technique
When it comes to packing, Coleman advises both folding and rolling your parka for maximum efficiency. Here’s how:
- Start by putting one arm in and the other arm in.
- Make one fold in, followed by another fold in, creating thirds.
- Finally, fold in half, press down, and then roll tightly up to the hood.
Interestingly, your hood works perfectly as a parka bag, allowing for a snug fit. This technique makes your parka easier to carry, resembling a small football.
Bonus: Using Your Parka as a Pillow
Moreover, if you’re flying or seated in the passenger seat on a road trip, this tightly rolled parka doubles as an ideal pillow. For more packing tips and expert advice, check out Coleman’s Twitter page.
