1. Introduction
In a Midwestern city known for its exhilarating water slides, dubbed the “Water Park Capital of the World,” a unique water park concept will soon open just in time for the summer season.
2. The Land of Natura
Introducing The Land of Natura, a 150-acre development in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. From the outset, the founders consulted with arborists and lagoon specialists to prioritize environmental preservation. Importantly, the creation of a 14-million-gallon lake will avoid practices such as cutting down trees and using chemicals like chlorine. The scenic woodlands, marshes, Cambrian-sandstone rock formations, and rolling topography of Wisconsin Dells, which have attracted visitors for over 150 years, will play a central role in this park’s offerings.
3. Features of Lake Wisconsin Dells
Situated on the Wisconsin River’s Lower Dells, the initial phase of this $60 million project involves building the world’s largest naturally filtered lake, known as Lake Wisconsin Dells. This unique lake will utilize a plant-based filtration process, featuring depths of up to 20 feet in certain areas.
Moreover, the lake will host the largest floating water park in America, providing a refreshing alternative to the 20 other water parks in the vicinity. Thrill-seekers can expect slides that reach heights of 100 to 150 feet.
4. Other Activities and Amenities
In addition to the water park, visitors can enjoy:
- 10 miles of dedicated trails for hiking and biking
- Kayak rentals for exploring the scenic landscape
- North America’s longest canopy tour, spanning 1,100 feet with bridges and walkways elevated 10 to 25 feet above the ground
- A 2,000-foot beach along the Wisconsin River, complete with communal fire pits for relaxation
- Food trucks offering a variety of farm-to-fork cuisine
5. A Family Legacy
The concept for this natural adventure park stems from the Makowski family’s second-generation business, which encompasses three existing resorts in the area, including The Vue, Natura Treescape Resort, and Aloha Beach Resort. Brothers Adam, Rich, and David Makowski aim to meld the area’s natural resources with adventurous outdoor activities, prioritizing ecological preservation.
6. Significance of the Name
In tribute to their parents, who immigrated from Poland and started their tourism ventures in Wisconsin Dells 50 years ago, the name “Natura,” meaning “nature” in Polish, reflects their commitment to environmental stewardship.
7. Admission and Future Plans
Currently, all-day admission is priced at $39.99. The first phase of The Land of Natura is expected to be completed this summer, with the entire project projected to finalize within the next five years.
