It was our second visit to Parc Omega Wolf Lodge in Quebec and this time we were staying in the magnificent wolf cabin. This unique accommodation, ingeniously designed with glass walls allows guests the rare opportunity to witness the wolves in their natural habitat, all from the comfort and safety of a cozy, well-appointed cabin. As twilight falls, the parc empties out save for those who planned a stay at one of the wolf cabins. As silence falls, the haunting melodies of wolf howls punctuate the air, creating a symphony that speaks to the soul.

Parc Omega Wolf Lodge, Quebec

Parc Omega is a unique wildlife park located in Montebello, Quebec, Canada, that offers visitors a chance to observe a variety of North American wildlife in their natural habitats. Spread over 2,200 acres, this park is home to numerous species such as deer, bison, bears, and wolves. One of the most distinctive experiences that Parc Omega offers is the opportunity to stay in Parc Omega’s wolf cabin.

Apart from the wolf cabins, there is plenty to see and do at Parc Omega. Visitors can drive through the park and observe the animals from the comfort of their own vehicles. It is regarded as one of the best places in Canada to see Canadian wildlife.

Self Drive Safari

You can visit Parc Omega on a day trip from Ottawa or Montreal. When you enter the park, you will begin a 12km self-drive loop through the different habitats. The route takes approximately an hour and a half to drive through, but if you are like us and take a lot of photos, it can extend to a few hours.

The car tour is an exceptional way to see wildlife from the safety and comfort of your vehicle.

Be sure to pick up a bag of carrots to feed the deer. You are allowed to feed carrots to the animals from your window. We suggest picking up at least two bags of carrots, as the white-tailed deer are adorable yet quite greedy, relishing the chance to eat from the palm of your hand.

Habitats of Parc Omega

What we appreciate about Parc Omega is how it has recreated landscapes to mimic the animals’ natural habitats. Conservation specialist Serge Lussier contributed significantly to the habitat design within the park. He mentioned that he wouldn’t introduce Arctic animals to Parc Omega unless they had a suitable habitat for them.

There is the Arctic Tundra for Arctic animals and expansive plains for the bison. The mountain goats were perched atop a high rocky hill and appeared perfectly at home. Since mountain goats typically reside at high altitudes, this alternative setup allows them to thrive.

A fantastic way to engage with Parc Omega’s nature and scenery is to hike the 1km (.6 mile) forested trail lined with totems crafted by Indigenous Algonquin artist Dennish Charette. In the summer, enjoy Omega by Night, an illuminated walk followed by storytelling. During winter, the trail transforms into a snowshoeing path, enhancing the magical experience.

The Park House Restaurant and Gift Shop is your first stop on your Parc Omega safari. Here, you can grab your bag of carrots and, if you’re hungry, enjoy a meal at the restaurant. The gift shop is also a great place to pick up souvenirs.

Parc Omega Wolf Chalet

Nestled within the pristine wilderness of Parc Omega in Quebec, the wolf cabin offers an unparalleled retreat into nature, providing an immersive encounter with one of the most mysterious and majestic creatures of the forest – the wolf.

The Wolf Lodge at Parc Omega is not your typical accommodation. The wolf lodges are crafted from wood and glass, offering a cozy yet luxurious atmosphere alongside panoramic views of wolves roaming their habitat. The cabins are insulated with heating for colder months and air conditioning for summer comfort.

Each cabin includes a comfortable bed, a bathroom with a shower, and a kitchenette to prepare meals, complete with a dining table, microwave, refrigerator, Nespresso coffee machine, dishes, and towels. Make sure to bring food and wine, as you will want to nestle in for an exceptional evening.

Staying in a wolf cabin offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the beauty and power of these animals up close. All accommodation options (Wolf Chalet, Wolf Lodge, or Wolf Cabin) are located within the same complex, each catering to different group sizes.

Watching the Interaction of Wolves From Our Chalet

We spent the night in a log cabin located within the wolf sanctuary, where a pack of wolves howled, roamed, slept, and played right outside our private glass observation room.

During the day, you can stroll along the boardwalk to observe the wolves from above. At night, the howls create an authentic and unforgettable wilderness experience. It was fascinating to witness the alpha male’s dominance within the pack, highlighting the nuances of their social structure.

While I felt sympathy for the Omega wolf often bullied or ignored, the experience fulfilled the excitement and intrigue we hoped for, and we definitely recommend you don’t miss out.

Other Accommodation Options

For those seeking more affordable options, consider booking a night in a tent or tipi. Wi-Tents offer the ultimate glamping experience, complete with beds and seating inside spacious conical tents. These accommodations feature wood heating, outdoor fire pits, and solar energy for lighting.

Additionally, there are organic toilets and drinking water available. The highlight of this accommodation is access to the footbridge to view the wolf and bear enclosures.

Pod Village

Another option is to stay in one of the pods in the village. While these are not located within the wolf enclosures, you’ll still hear the park’s sounds and enjoy nighttime activities through the village.

Each pod includes electricity, heating, air conditioning, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. Kids will love sleeping in the mezzanine bed, acting as the ultimate bunk bed, and pods are conveniently located near the Old Farm, a fantastic visit for families.

Stilt House

Families will appreciate staying in the stilt house, which accommodates 7 people with full beds and bedding available for rental. We suggest bringing a sleeping bag. Similar to the tents, these also feature an organic toilet, an outdoor fireplace, and solar energy for lighting.

This option also grants access to the wolves’ and black bears’ footbridges, allowing for natural habitat observation.

Wolves and Bear Suite

Newly opened in September 2023, Parc Omega’s Wolves and Bear suite offers luxurious accommodations. Choose from one or two-floor suites replete with modern decor, fireplaces, and even an outdoor fire pit. Positioned strategically, these cabins provide close visibility of both the bears and the wolves. The two-floor unit even features a balcony for breathtaking views. Please note that bears hibernate from November to April, so expect only wolves during this period.

Great Canadian Safari – The Wildlife Of Parc Omega

Visiting Parc Omega resembles embarking on a safari. Our experiences around the world confirm similar excitement here. The animals roam freely within sizeable enclosures and frequently approach your vehicle, so be prepared. At times, deer and caribou can be somewhat aggressive as they seek carrots, so keep moving.

You are welcome to drive around the trail as many times as you wish to view the various animals. However, refrain from exiting your vehicle outside of designated areas.

Arctic Foxes: A favorite component of Parc Omega for us was undoubtedly the Arctic enclosures. Observing the arctic species in winter context was notably more delightful than our previous experiences. They appeared entirely at ease amid the snow-covered landscape.

Arctic Wolves: Witnessing these beautiful Arctic wolves is truly a privilege. They were inquisitive when we paused to observe them, maintaining a respectful distance yet posed gracefully for our cameras. Remarkably, the Arctic wolf is a sub-species of the Gray wolf, and there’s much to learn about wildlife during your visit.

Elk: A fantastic time to explore Parc Omega is during the rutting season when male elk display their full-antler growth. We could spend a significant amount of time captivated as we observed males with their harem of females.

Caribou: In Canada, reindeers are known as caribou, but for visitors with children, calling them reindeer adds joy! I’ve always found their sizable hooves fascinating, helping them travel through winter’s snow, the best time to see them, in my opinion.

Coyotes: Until encountering coyotes in the wild, I never comprehended their true size; they can be easily confused with wolves, though they are slightly smaller. Notably, coyote ears are pointier than a wolf’s. We fondly recall observing them against the backdrop of autumn leaves in stunning hues.

The list of wildlife at Parc Omega is extensive, including walking trails that lead through diverse habitats, where animals such as wild boars, raccoons, and beavers can also be seen.
