This new route serves as a transformative connection between the TransAmerica Trail and the Northern Tier bicycle routes, as well as intersecting the historic Lewis & Clark Trail near the route’s midpoint.
“Our newest route showcases some of our country’s most stunning natural wonders and national landmarks between the Rocky Mountains and the Midwest,” says Carla Majernik, director of routes and mapping. “However, we never anticipated the challenges of traveling this summer as we designed it. Thus, while 2020 might not be the perfect time to ride the full Parks, Peaks, and Prairies route, it offers a fantastic opportunity to explore smaller sections if you live nearby or to plan your adventure for 2021 and beyond.”
The Parks, Peaks and Prairies route has been meticulously researched by volunteers and the organization’s cartography team, culminating in cyclist-specific maps available in both print and digital formats. These maps can be accessed in GPX data format here, along with the Bicycle Route Navigator app for both Apple and Android devices.
